An unidentified gunman opened fire on an Olney woman and her two male companions in the parking lot of a Far Northeast apartment complex last Thursday, killing the woman and wounding one of the men, police say.
The shooting happened behind building N at Joshua House, 2607 Welsh Road, at about 1:19 a.m. Officers from the 8th Police District found Pauline Simmons, 37, suffering from a gunshot wound of the head. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. Simmons lived on the 5200 block of N. Fairhill St.
A second gunshot victim was taken by private vehicle to Nazareth Hospital with wounds of the face and left arm. The 35-year-old man was later transferred to Temple University Hospital in stable condition, police said. His name was not released publicly.
At the shooting scene, police told news reporters that 12 spent shell casings were found near Simmons. Stray bullets reportedly struck several cars and nearby buildings, though no other injuries were reported.
6ABC reported that the wounded man told investigators that he, Simmons and another man were together in the parking lot when two people approached them and began shooting. The third victim escaped unharmed.
Police have made no arrests and released no descriptions of the assailants. The motive is unknown. ••
