A 73-year-old man who attempted to walk across Roosevelt Boulevard against the traffic light lost his life when a motorist suspected of drunk driving struck him on Saturday night, police say.
The accident happened at about 7:45 p.m. at the Faunce Street intersection. The victim was walking eastbound in the inner southbound lanes when a 2010 Kia Soul struck him. The pedestrian suffered undisclosed critical injuries and died at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity.
A 40-year-old man was behind the wheel of the striking vehicle. He called 911 and waited at the scene for police to arrive. Suspecting that the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police took him to Northeast Detectives for questioning. No charges have been filed.
