Suspects place skimming device on local ATM

Surveillance photo

Two unidentified men left a so-called skimming device on the ATM at a Bustleton bank recently, but they also left behind photos of themselves on the bank’s surveillance camera, police say.

An employee at Citizens Bank, 9353 Krewstown Road, initially reported the presence of the device to police at about 2 p.m. on Nov. 2. A skimming device is a small object that thieves use to steal account information from unsuspecting ATM users. Typically, the crook will insert the device into the card-reading slot of the cash machine. Then when a bank customer inserts his or her card, the skimmer will save the data on the card.

When police arrived at Citizens Bank on Nov. 2, they didn’t find the skimming device initially. Later, a maintenance employee found the dubious object and retrieved it for police.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from the ATM and determined that two suspects were responsible for placing the device. Police did not issue physical descriptions of the thieves, but they released a still photo of them.

Call the Major Crimes Unit at 215–686–3396 to report information about the case. ••
