Teen fractures skull in dirt bike accident

A teenager on an unregistered dirt bike fractured his skull when he crashed into a police car on Torresdale Avenue in Wissinoming on Monday afternoon, authorities say.

Police did not identify the injured 18-year-old, who was hospitalized at Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus in critical condition.

According to a police report, the teen was riding an off-road motorcycle northbound on Torresdale Avenue approaching Howell Street at about 4:45 p.m. when he collided with a marked police car occupied by two Highway Unit officers, who were traveling southbound on Torresdale and turning left onto Howell.

An officer who was in the passenger seat of the patrol car suffered an injury to his right arm and was treated at Jeanes Hospital, then released. The driver of the patrol car was not injured.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage in the collision. ••
