Support Mayfair playground on Black Friday, Cyber Monday

Black Friday and Cyber Monday shoppers can support Mayfair Memorial Playground during the Thanksgiving period by shopping for their holiday gifts via a special AmazonSmile link.

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that offers the same products, prices and features. The difference is that the Amazon Foundation will donate a portion of all eligible sales (0.5 percent of the purchase price on selected products) to the charity of the shopper’s choice.

To shop on behalf of Mayfair Memorial Playground, visit smile.amazon.com/ch/47–2441391 and log in with your Amazon account. New Amazon users will be able to create an account.

Amazon is the world’s largest e-commerce retailer. Mayfair Memorial Playground is an independent, nonprofit, public playground at Rowland Avenue and Vista Street near the Lincoln High School pool. Community volunteers maintain and fund the playground. ••

WORC to present two free self-employment workshops

AARP Foundation has awarded a $20,000 demonstration grant to the Women’s Opportunities Resource Center to help low-income and moderate-income women and men to become self-employed. The funding will enable WORC to present two free self-employment workshops for older adults on Nov. 30 and Dec. 6.

The Nov. 30 session will be at the WORC office, 2010 Chestnut St., at 6 p.m. The Dec. 6 session will be at the Free Library’s Central Branch, 1901 Vine St., at 11 a.m. The workshops will run for 90 minutes.

The workshops are designed for women and men age 50 and older who have retired, lost their jobs or who want to scale back their work while becoming their own bosses. WORC has helped about 5,000 low-income people start and run their own businesses since 1993. The agency has disbursed nearly 600 microloans totaling more than $2.5 million while creating or retaining more than 1,500 jobs.

The 90-minute WORC workshops will walk participants through AARP’s “Work for Yourself @ 50+” process and connect them with local resources to help them reach their goals.

To register for the workshops, call 888–339–5617. For information about WORC, call 215–564–5500 or visit worc-pa.com. Also look for WORC on Facebook and Twitter. ••
