Motorcyclist killed after crash with SUV

A motorcyclist was killed and his passenger critically injured when their two-wheeler crashed into an SUV outside the Grant Academy Shopping Center on Nov. 25.

The accident happened at 6:44 p.m. on the 3300 block of Grant Ave. when the eastbound 2004 Yamaha motorcycle collided with a Jeep that was exiting a parking lot, police said. Both motorcycle riders were ejected from the bike.

The operator, Daniel E. Knopf Jr., 33, was taken to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus and pronounced dead at 7:17 p.m. His passenger, a 24-year-old woman, was taken to the same hospital in critical condition. Police did not identify her by name and had no further information about her condition on Tuesday.

Two people in the Jeep were not injured. They remained at the scene until police arrived. No criminal charges were filed. ••
