Republicans are condemning U.S. Sen. Bob Casey Jr. for announcing his opposition to Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
Republican Party of Pennsylvania Chairman Val DiGiorgio said, “Sen. Casey has again aligned himself with the far left. In choosing to oppose Judge Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination, Bob Casey is directly disrespecting the will of Pennsylvania voters. These voters gave President Trump the chance to nominate Judge Gorsuch — a mainstream conservative who American Bar Association unanimously gave its highest rating of ‘well-qualified.’ ”
National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Bob Salera said, “By opposing Judge Neil Gorsuch, Bob Casey is aligning himself with the far left instead of honoring the will of Pennsylvania voters. Pennsylvanians will remember Casey’s betrayal when they head to the polls in 2018.”
Brian Rogers, executive director of the conservative America Rising Squared, lashed out at Casey for supporting a filibuster against Gorsuch.
“By opposing an up-or-down vote on Judge Gorsuch, it is clear that Sen. Casey cares more about appeasing far-left activists threatening his re-election this year than he does the views of most Pennsylvanians. Through three days of Judge Gorsuch’s confirmation hearing, no Democrat has questioned his qualifications to serve on the Court with great distinction. Yet Sen. Casey is ignoring these sterling credentials and the wide bipartisan support for Judge Gorsuch and going so far as to deny him an up-or-down vote in order to curry favor with liberals who continue to push the Democrat Party further and further left,” Rogers said. ••
