Mayfair May Fair event details released

The Mayfair Business Association is planning the annual Mayfair May Fair, set for Saturday, May 20.

The day will start with a Fallen Heroes 5K Run and Walk, with registration at 7:30 a.m. at Mayfair Memorial Playground, Rowland Avenue and Vista Street. The run/walk will start at 8:30. This year’s event memorializes police Sgt. Timothy Simpson, who was killed in 2008 when his car was hit by a speeding driver. Pre-registration costs $25. Go to mayfairrun.com

The May Fair will feature a classic car show, and the band Jamison will be among the live music acts. The Insectarium will release monarch butterflies, weather permitting.

Most of the activities will take place along Frankford Avenue, between Cottman Avenue and Sheffield Avenue.

In other news from the April 12 meeting, held at the Mayfair Community Center:

• The Pennypack Music Festival will host its first concert of the season on Wednesday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. The All-Catholic Jazz Band and Steal Your Face, a Grateful Dead tribute band, will perform at the bandshell near the park entrance at Cresco Avenue and Welsh Road. In all, there will be 11 concerts on most Wednesdays through the summer. The schedule is available at pennypack.org

• The Mayfair Community Development Corporation will hold its first night market on Thursday, June 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Frankford and Ryan avenues. The market will feature vendors and live music and will be open the first and third Thursdays of the month through October.

• World of Animals will present a Sunday Funday on Sunday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Polanka Park, 3258 Knights Road in Bensalem. Admission is free.
