Juniata man gets life in prison for Mayfair stabbing

A Juniata Park man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the Aug. 8, 2015, stabbing death of Thomas Ewing as the victim was walking home from Owen’s Cafe in Mayfair.

Common Pleas Court Judge Rose DeFino-Nastasi sentenced Angelo Maldonado on the same day a jury convicted him of first-degree murder following a four-day trial.

Ewing, 21, was walking on the 7300 block of Revere St. toward his home in nearby Lexington Park at about 3 a.m. when Maldonado, 39, of the 3900 block of Claridge St., approached him in a truck, exited the vehicle, stabbed Ewing to death and fled. Police found Ewing on the ground with multiple wounds of the chest and torso. He died at a local hospital about a half-hour later.

An argument precipitated the slaying. ••
