Gunman robs Castor Gardens dollar store

An unidentified gunman robbed a dollar store in Castor Gardens on May 2, but the store’s surveillance cameras captured images of the suspect.

The crime occurred at about 1 p.m. at Family Dollar, 6430 Castor Ave. According to police, the robber approached a sales counter to make a purchase, but when the cashier opened the register the robber pulled a gun and demanded money, stating “Take everything out of that register and don’t say anything. I’m not playing with you.”

After the cashier complied with the demand, the man fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen on foot fleeing toward Hellerman Street. He was described as black, in his late 20s, about 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a heavy build, light complexion, full beard and mustache. He wore a black baseball cap, black hoodie with white writing across the chest and blue jeans.
