A female mugger attacked an 82-year-old woman in broad daylight on a Mayfair street corner earlier this month, police say.

Surveillance cameras recorded the crime, which happened just before 11:30 a.m. at Battersby Street and Tyson Avenue. The victim tumbled to the ground and injured her elbow when the robber ripped her pocketbook from her left shoulder.

A video clip released by police on Wednesday showed the victim walking with the help of a cane eastbound on Tyson with the suspect following her. Initially, the robber walked several paces behind the victim. But as the pair crossed Battersby, the robber lunged for the victim’s pocketbook.

The victim clung to the bag briefly, but the robber yanked it away from her. The robber ran southbound on Battersby for a block, then began walking as she turned westbound on Disston Street.

The victim suffered scrapes to her elbow, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic woman, 5 feet 5 inches tall with a heavy build and dark, shoulder-length hair. Her shirt had pink and gray stripes. She also wore dark pants. Call 215–686-TIPS or text to PPD TIP to report information. ••
