Flea market and car show at local church

United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd, 10901 Calera Road, will hold a flea market and car show on Saturday, June 24, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day will also include a disc jockey and baked goods. The kitchen will be open for lunch. ••

Rolling Stones tribute band to perform

The Pennypack Park Concert Series will continue on Wednesday, June 21, with a concert by the Glimmer Twins, a Rolling Stones tribute band.

Here is the rest of the lineup: June 28, Idol Kings (Journey/John Mellencamp tribute); July 12, Irish Night, featuring Jamison and the Bogside Rogues; July 19, Black Dog (Led Zeppelin tribute); July 26, Romeo Delight (Van Halen tribute); Aug. 9, High Noon (Southern rock); Aug. 16, LeCompt; Aug. 23, The Launch (Boston and Styx tribute); and Sept. 6, Think Pink Floyd (Pink Floyd tribute).

Quartett Club welcomes community

The Philadelphia Quartett Country Club, 1075 Southampton Road in Somerton, is open to the public.

On Sunday, June 25, a full-course meal will be served from 4 to 5 p.m. Steak and shrimp scampi are on the menu. On Sunday, July 9, happy hour will go from 4 to 5 p.m. Chicken marsala and the fish of the day will be served. Call 215–969–9442. ••

Open house to be held at career institute

Brightwood Career Institute, at Philadelphia Mills mall, is inviting the public to visit on Wednesday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.

The event will feature refreshments, campus tours, program demonstrations and a meet-and-greet reception. Brightwood Career Institute offers programs such as computer networking technology, electrical technician, medical assistant, medical billing and coding, pharmacy technician and respiratory care.

Local church offering Bible school

Lehigh Baptist Church, 934 Alburger Ave., will host a Vacation Bible School from June 26–30.

The school will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.

Classes are for kids age 5 to those completing sixth grade. Registration is free, though daily offerings will be accepted for a missionary project.

Discussion on free food at NE Regional

Community day at Mt. Zion

Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 8101 Erdrick St. in Holmesburg, will host a community day on Saturday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in its parking lot.

The event will take place rain or shine. The day will include vendors, screenings, music, giveaways, games and food. Call 215–624–8869. ••

June concerts planned in Somerton

The Danube Swabian Association, 1277 Southampton Road in Somerton, will host two free outdoor concerts on upcoming Fridays.

The lineup is Cardinal Dougherty Alumni Band (June 23) and Soundwave big band (June 30).

Doors open at 6 p.m., with food and drinks for sale.

More performers added to XPoNential Fest

WXPN will host its annual XPoNential Music Festival July 28–30 at the BB&T Pavilion and the adjacent Wiggins Waterfront Park in Camden.

Rhiannon Giddens, The Record Company, Sweet Spirit and The Dream Syndicate have just been added as performers.

The opening-night performers will be Wilco, Conor Oberst and Hop Along. Amos Lee and Friends featuring Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Spoon, along with special guests The Suffers and Chicano Batman, will perform on July 29.

Other performers will include Offa Rex (The Decemberists & Olivia Chaney), Foxygen, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Pinegrove, performing at the two stages in Wiggins Park.

Philadelphia Folk Festival expands lineup

The Philadelphia Folk Festival recently added The Infamous Stringdusters to its lineup on Friday, Aug. 18.

The group will be joined by Old Crow Medicine Show and Samantha Fish.

The festival will feature a campers-only show, hosted by World Cafe’s David Dye, on Thursday, Aug. 17. Musical guests will be The National Reserve, Whitehorse and Joan Shelley.

A highlight on Saturday, Aug. 19, will be Helen Leicht’s local showcase. The acts will be Greg Sover, Jesse Hale Moore and Vita and the Woolf.

Returning to the festival will be Gene Shay, the Great Groove Band, bagpiper Dennis Hangey and the Give and Take Jugglers.

The festival takes place at Old Pool Farm in Upper Salford Township in Montgomery County. Tickets can be purchased at folksong.eventbrite.com ••

KleinLife organizing three upcoming trips

Travel with KleinLife continues with a trip to the new Museum of the American Revolution, 3rd and Chestnut streets, on Wednesday, July 19.

The trip includes a box lunch and round-trip transportation aboard an air-conditioned school bus. The trip costs $60.

Also on July 19, there will be a trip to the Bucks County Playhouse, in New Hope, to a see a production of Guys and Dolls. The trip includes round-trip transportation on an air-conditioned bus. An optional lunch ($1 donation) will be available at KleinLife prior to departure. The cost is $70.

The series wraps up with a three-day, two-night motor coach excursion to Lake George, New York, from Sept. 11–13. The trip includes a boat cruise on Lake George, a visit to Prospect Mountain, a guided tour of Saratoga Springs and a paint and sip workshop. The cost is $600, double occupancy.

North alums heading to Atlantic City

The North Catholic Alumni Association is sponsoring a trip to Atlantic City on Monday, Aug. 7.

A bus will depart the alumni association office at Rhawn and Fairfield streets at 9 a.m.

The day will start with a one-hour boat ride on the Atlantic City Cruise. Next will be a four-hour stay at Resorts Casino, with $25 slot cash.

The day will end with an all-you-can-eat dinner and unlimited wine at Renault Winery.

The bus will return at the alumni office at 8:30 p.m.

The cost is $70, paid in full by July 5.

Holy Innocents heading to casino

Holy Innocents Catholic Church is sponsoring a trip to Atlantic City’s Tropicana Casino on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

A bus will depart L Street and Hunting Park Avenue at 9:30 a.m.

There will be a Mass at noon at Boardwalk Hall, followed by a procession for a blessing of the sea. A carnival-style reception will follow at St. Michael’s Church.

Guests will receive a $25 slot package.

The bus will depart the casino at 5 p.m.

The trip costs $30, which is due by Aug. 6.

Art show to be held at Tacony Library

The Tacony Library and Arts Building, 6918 Torresdale Ave., will host a social and art show on Wednesday, July 26, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Wooden block party in Holmesburg

Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave., will host a wooden block party on Fridays, July 7 and Aug. 4, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Trips to aid Fox Chase Cancer Center

The Marlyn Fein Chapter, affiliated with Fox Chase Cancer Center, is running a trip to Resorts Casino in Atlantic City on June 25.

Marlyn Fein will also be running a trip to Vermont from Oct. 9–13. The cost is $815, double occupancy, or $999, single occupancy.
