A senior citizen from East Frankford shot and killed two of his neighbors early Sunday after they allegedly tried to climb over a fence into his backyard.
Shortly before 2 a.m., the 69-year-old shooter called police to the 4700 block of James Street where they found a 45-year-old man and 42-year-old woman each with a single gunshot wound of the head. Paramedics pronounced both victims dead at the scene. They reportedly were a boyfriend and girlfriend who lived next door to the gunman. Authorities did not disclose their identities.
“Both were shot in the back of the head,” Philadelphia Police Capt. George Fuchs said.
Police took the shooter into custody for questioning, but he was later released and has not been charged. His name was not released. He told police an argument precipitated the confrontation and he felt threatened when the victims tried to scale a fence surrounding his property. Investigators recovered the shooter’s gun. ••
