Officers Dennis Clair and John Hanejko were involved in at least three major crime arrests during July and were recently recognized by the 8th Police District Advisory Council as Officers of the Month.
The string of arrests began on July 11 when Clair and Hanejko learned that a cell phone stolen during an armed robbery in Harrowgate had been tracked to the 4200 block of Fairdale Street. The officers conducted surveillance on the block and saw a woman who fit the description of one of the robbers. While questioning her, a man fitting the description of a second robber approached the location. Clair and Hanejko arrested both.
That same day, police received a report that a 2008 Chevy Impala had been stolen from the unit block of Shipley Place. On July 19, Clair and Hanejko were on patrol near Welsh Road and Cresco Avenue when they saw a car matching the description of the stolen vehicle. After several hours of surveillance, the officers confirmed the car as stolen and arrested a man and woman who had been using it.
Lastly, on July 27, Clair and Hanejko went to the area of Horrocks and Strahle streets to assist a 2nd district officer who had been involved in a shooting. While surveying the area for suspects, the officers saw a man fitting a description of one of the gunmen walking along Horrocks Street. The officers stopped the suspect and held him until a victim identified the suspect as one of the culprits. ••
