The Northeast Times would like to congratulate the following college graduates, students who were named to their school’s dean’s list, and area residents who recently received special honors.

Yasmeen Daraz and other student leaders representing Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine’s Class of 2020 recently organized a multi-site Day of Service. Second-year medical students fanned out across Lackawanna County to clean parks, stock food pantry shelves and help care for youth, elderly and the homeless population in the region.

Joe Pisacano, a 2016 graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep, is a member of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute cross country team. He is an aeronautical engineering major. For specific information about Pisacano and the team, go to rpiathletics.com/index.aspx?path=mcross

Julian Lucumi enrolled at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. The school has 8,080 students, nearly triple the enrollment in 2000.

Youngstown State University welcomed Zaire Hollerway, a George Washington High School graduate, to campus for the fall semester. Working toward a degree in applied science — criminal justice, Hollerway joins more than 2,600 other new undergraduate students.

Michael Ademola has been named to the Central Penn College dean’s list. Ademola is majoring in corporate communications. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must carry six or more credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better for the term.

The undergraduate class of 2021 and the master of science in occupational therapy class of 2022 arrived at Alvernia University, and took part in service projects at city of Reading public schools for orientation day. Local students are Moriah Clifton, a graduate of MaST Community Charter School studying healthcare science; Djnie Chery, a graduate of Northeast studying nursing; Mark Stoots, a graduate of La Salle High School studying occupational therapy; and Avery Wilson, a graduate of Archbishop Ryan.

Lebanon Valley College welcomed 513 first-year and transfer students, including Endya Corker-Gaskin, a graduate of Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush who is pursuing a degree in music education; and Alexis Morace, a graduate of Villa Joseph Marie who is pursuing a degree in physical therapy.

Brianne Murphy has enrolled at James Madison University for the fall 2017 semester. Murphy’s selected major is nursing.

Victoria Gowland is serving as a resident assistant at Alvernia University for the 2017–18 academic year. Gowland is studying occupational therapy. She is a graduate of Little Flower High School. As an RA, Gowland encourages student responsibility and accountability, and works to provide a residential environment that enhances student academic progress and success.

Fairleigh Dickinson University conferred more than 3,000 degrees, ranging from associates to doctorates, on graduates at MetLife Stadium. Local graduates were Scott DiDonato (individualized studies) and Batsheva Rosenberg (accounting).

More than 75 students in the doctor of physical therapy program at University of the Sciences received a white coat at the 13th Annual Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony, which is an annual rite of passage for students entering the professional phase of the doctor of physical therapy program. Local participants were Nicholas Angeny, Erin Fenningham, Luciana Hud, Victoria Ngo and Jeffrey Pocoroba. The students now continue on the path to receiving a doctor of physical therapy degree in May 2020. ••
