Boulevard Direct bus stations now open

SEPTA unveiled the city’s first Boulevard District bus stations, an enhancement to the current Route 14 bus service.

PennDOT, Mayor Jim Kenney, SEPTA General Manager Jeffrey Knueppel and other officials last week held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the city’s first Boulevard Direct bus stations, which opened on Sunday.

The officials gathered at Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard.

The new Boulevard Direct service will be an enhancement to current SEPTA Route 14 bus service. The average Boulevard Direct trip from end-to-end will take only 30 minutes, compared to 47 minutes on a Route 14 bus.

The route will serve Roosevelt Boulevard from Frankford Transportation Center to the Neshaminy Mall and will offer frequent service with fewer stops than the current Route 14 bus service.

New customer amenities at most station stops will include shelters, benches and signage.

PennDOT also highlighted its resurfacing project covering the 12-mile stretch of the local, outer lanes of the Boulevard, which was completed in cooperation with the city’s Boulevard Direct project. ••
