Tomlinson talks with local voters on Election Day

By John Cole

Republican candidate for city controller Mike Tomlinson spent the majority of his day pitching his platform to voters in Northeast Philadelphia.

Tomlinson, a Holmesburg native, made stops in the early afternoon at polling locations in Wards 66, 65 and 57.

Tomlinson commented on the low voter turnout he was witnessing, but did not see this as a negative for his campaign and thought it would increase his chances of winning.

During his stops at polling places, he felt confident in the voters he was able to talk to.

“After I introduced myself, whether they were Democrat or Republican, it seems like I can sway their mind,” Tomlinson said. “I just wish I could talk to everybody going into these polls.”

Tomlinson then cited some high schools that were doing early exit polls.

“They’ve been very positive for Beth Grossman and I.”

Despite the weather possibly pulling some people away from the voting booth, Tomlinson believes the residents of Northeast Philadelphia will come out for him in large numbers.

“When I get a chance to talk about the issues in the city, then they say, ‘I’m glad you’re here.’ ”

Despite being dubbed the underdog by political pundits, Tomlinson felt confident in his chances. ••
