Judging by the Times’ mailbag, local families are in need of donations this holiday season.
Hanukkah starts on Tuesday, and Christmas is less than three weeks away. The Times is in the midst of coordinating its 69th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund, which has helped thousands of local families during the holiday season over the years.
Judging by our mailbag, local people are in need.
A Holmesburg mother of two is awaiting a kidney transplant, a Rhawnhurst senior citizen cannot get anything for her grandchildren after paying her bills and an elderly Tacony widow is battling health issues.
In years past, our readers have generously contributed to the fund. All money collected is used to buy gift cards to provide holiday dinners and children’s gifts to those who are struggling to make ends meet.
We’ll publish your name in a list of donors. If you prefer to donate anonymously, we will honor that request. If you would like to request help, or if you know of someone who could use assistance during the holidays, please take a few minutes to write a letter. The address is:
