O’Neill collecting Toys for Tots
The district offices of City Councilman Brian O’Neill are collecting items for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.

Local student honored in design contest
Our Lady of Calvary fourth-grader Reina Sanchez was one of five students to earn honorable mention recognition in a Christmas card design contest among students in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Students created an original design for Archbishop Charles Chaput’s official Christmas card cover. The assignment was to depict the joy of Christ’s birth.
More than 1,100 designs were received from students, and staff members from the Office of Catholic Education did the judging. ••
Comedy night at local AOH
The deadline is Jan. 11 to buy tickets for Northeast Catholic Alumni Association’s upcoming comedy night.
The show will take place on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 39, 7229 Tulip St.
Tickets cost $45 and include beer, wine, soda and buffet. Doors will be open from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. The show will run from 8:30 to 10 p.m. and feature Jim Daly, Ed McGonigal and Jake Mattera.
The evening will include a Chinese auction.

Maternity BVM sets Christmas schedule
Maternity BVM Catholic Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Ave., will hold Sunday Masses on Dec. 24 at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. The Christmas Eve Mass schedule is 4 p.m. (upper church, children’s liturgy with the Christmas story by the children); 4:10 p.m. (overflow Mass in lower chapel); 5:30 p.m.; and midnight (with Christmas carols at 11:30 p.m.).
The Dec. 25 Christmas Day Mass schedule is 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Philly Orchestra offering holiday programs
The Philadelphia Orchestra will present several upcoming holiday events at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Broad and Spruce streets.
Handel’s Messiah will be performed on Dec. 21–22 at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $60 to $135.
On New Year’s Eve at 7:30 p.m., conductor Stephane Deneve will lead the orchestra in pieces from around the world. Tickets range from $35 to $135.

Vietnam vets eligible for pin
State Rep. Tom Murt (R-152nd dist.) is reminding veterans who served during the Vietnam War that they are eligible to receive a commemorative lapel pin acknowledging their sacrifice.
Eligible veterans include living United States veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. armed forces at any time during the period of Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location.

Grief support group meeting
Donna Glatz, widow of slain Lawncrest jeweler William Glatz, will hold Heal Your Heart From Loss on Thursday, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the James E. Kinney Senior Center, 165 Township Road in Richboro.
Glatz will share the story of her husband’s murder.
William Glatz was shot to death in 2010 during a robbery attempt inside his jewelry store on Rising Sun Avenue.
Obina Onyiah was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Kevin Turner, who had escaped from Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility nine days earlier, died in a shootout with Glatz. The Glatz family had owned the store for more than 60 years.

Erdrick Street proves clean
The 7000 block of Erdrick St. in Tacony finished in third place in the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee’s Clean Block Contest.
The 25 blocks in the contest were judged for efforts of block residents, cleanliness, beautification efforts and property improvements.
Erdrick Street received $500 for continued clean block projects. ••
