Pulling some strings: Ken Maminski, a Northeast resident and captain of the Aqua String Band, performs during the annual Mummers Parade in Center City on New Year’s Day. Maminski led his group to an eighth-place finish out of 16 groups during the festivities, and Maminski took eighth overall in the captain’s competition. Aqua’s theme was Lights Out. The bands battled frigid temperatures on New Year’s Day, marking the third-coldest Jan. 1 on record.
