Firefighters fought two separate fires in the Northeast this weekend, which saw one death and two firefighter injuries.
Firefighters were called out to a house in Fox Chase on the 7600 block of Verree Road on Saturday, Feb. 17, and arrived just before 6:30 p.m. They saw heavy fire as they arrived. One civilian was reported dead. Action News reported the victim as a 70-year-old woman trapped on the second floor of the home.
Two firefighters were injured in the incident and are in stable condition at the hospital. Firefighters got control of the fire at 7:49Â p.m.
The next night, firefighters were called out to the 7200 block of Large Street in Castor Gardens for another fire. They arrived on the scene just after 5:30 p.m. They found heavy smoke coming from the second floor of a rowhome. The battle was over in less than 10 minutes. No injuries have been reported.
After the fire, the PFD will install smoke alarms on the 7600 block of Verree Road. Last year, the department received a grant from FEMA to install 30,000 smoke alarms in the city. Contact Philly 311 if you know residents in need. ••
