Dine with the Docs at Nazareth

Nazareth Hospital will host a rescheduled “Dine with the Docs” event on Wednesday, March 28, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the DiBello Conference Center on the first floor in the Marian Building, 2601 Holme Ave. The event was rescheduled from March 7, due to inclement weather.

The theme of the free event is “Colorectal Cancer: Preventable, Treatable, Beatable,” in honor of Colorectal Awareness Month. Participants will learn about colorectal cancer, risk factors and strategies for treatment from Dr. Mark S. Codella, chairman of Nazareth’s Department of Medicine.

Dinner will be served to participants. The first 50 people to register will receive a free colorectal home testing kit. Registration is required. To register or for more information, call 215–335–6100. ••

White holding opioid meeting on Thursday

State Rep. Martina White (R-170th dist.) will hold two community meetings to help prevent and fight opioid addiction.

The first meeting will be on Thursday, March 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave. The second meeting will be on Thursday, April 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Archbishop Ryan High School, 11201 Academy Road.

Meeting Wednesday night about road closure

The Holmesburg Civic Association will hold a meeting on Wednesday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at the Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, 8046 Frankford Ave., to discuss the upcoming work on the historic Frankford Avenue bridge over Pennypack Creek.

The bridge will be closing on March 26 due to PennDOT’s capital project to rehabilitate and restore the structure. The closure will last for five months, during which time the roadway and both sidewalks will be closed.

At the March 21 meeting, PennDOT representatives will speak with community members and roadway users to answer questions and address concerns.

Traffic will be detoured during construction between Solly Avenue and Ashburner Street. During the five-month closure, motorists will be detoured over Rhawn Street, Torresdale Avenue and Linden Avenue. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Detour routes and aids to navigation signs will be posted for pedestrians and recreational users of Pennypack Creek, respectively.

Father Judge to present musical

The Father Judge High School theater arts department till present four performances of the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the school auditorium, 3301 Solly Ave.

Show times are 7 p.m. on March 22–24 and 2 p.m. on March 25, Doors open a half-hour before the show.

Tickets cost $8 in advance or $12 at the door ($10 for senior citizens and kids under 12).

Budgeting workshop at NE Regional

Philadelphia Federal Credit Union will present a budgeting workshop at Northeast Regional Library, 2228 Cottman Ave., on Tuesday, March 27, from 6 to 7 p.m. The workshop is free. No registration is required.

Holmesburg Coalition meeting on Friday

The Holmesburg Coalition will hold the first part of a three-part Community Visioning Series on Friday, March 23, at New Foundations Charter Elementary School, 4850 Rhawn St. (at Torresdale Avenue).

Immanuel Lutheran ready for Holy Week

Immanuel Lutheran Church, 14100 Worthington Road in Somerton, has announced its Holy Week service schedule.

Palm/Passion Sunday will be at 10:30 a.m. on March 25.

Maundy Thursday is set for March 29 at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A soup supper will be served at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Good Friday services will be at 11:44 a.m. and 3 and 7 p.m. on March 30.

On Easter Saturday, March 31, an Easter egg hunt will take place at 12:30 p.m. Easter Fire and Fellowship begins at 7 p.m., followed by the Easter Eve vigil at 7:30. A champagne toast and dessert is scheduled for 8:30.

On Easter Sunday, April 1, there will be a sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served at 7:30 a.m. Celebration services will be at 9:30 and 11 a.m. ••

Local actor stars in new show

Northeast resident Keith J. Conallen is in the middle of his Walnut Street Theatre Independence Studio on 3 debut, starring as Joey in a two-man production of A Steady Rain.

Chicago cops Joey and Denny have been friends since kindergarten and are like brothers. Intensely loyal, they want to do right by the force, their family and each other. Joey is a loner with a bit of a drinking problem. Denny is a family man passed over for promotion one time too many.

Their relationship is put on the line after responding to a domestic disturbance that takes a turn for the worse.

The show continues through Sunday, March 25.

Tickets cost $35 and $40.

Showtimes are daily at 7:30 p.m. and weekends at 2:30 p.m. There is a special 2:30 matinee on Thursday, March 22.

Exhibit for artists 55 and over

The deadline is March 23 for artists age 55 and over to submit artwork for exhibit as part of the “Celebrate Arts and Aging” festivities during Older Americans Month in May.

Photo or slides of artwork, accompanied by an art submission form, should be sent to Amanda Buonomo, PCA special events manager, at PCA, 642 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19130.

Palm making at Our Lady of Consolation

Our Lady of Consolation, 7051 Tulip St. in Tacony, will continue its tradition of making palm daily through Thursday, March 22, from 1 to 8 p.m.

Participants will learn palm weaving and braiding. Palm will be sold in the church basement after upcoming Masses. The Mass schedule is Saturday, March 24, at 5 p.m.; and Sunday, March 25, at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Call 215–435–2871. ••

Pesach seder at Temple Beth Ami

Temple Beth Ami, 9201 Old Bustleton Ave., will host a Pesach seder on Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m.

Murt to host services for veterans on April 20

State Rep. Thomas Murt (R-152nd dist.) will host the Disabled American Veterans’ van at his district office, 19 S. York Road in Hatboro, on Friday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

DAV officers will be available to educate disabled veterans and their families on specific veterans’ benefits and services, and assist with the completion of required applications. Veterans are asked to bring their claim number, Social Security number, a photo ID and DD-214. There is no need for an appointment. Walk-ins will be accepted.

Killer of bin Laden to speak at Michael Strange Foundation benefit

The Michael Strange Foundation will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, April 21, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Spring Mill Country Club & Manor, 171 Jacksonville Road in Ivyland.

The speakers will be Rob O’Neill, who killed Osama bin Laden; U.S. Navy SEAL Thomas “Drago” Dzieran; and Vietnam War veteran and radio host Joe Griffies.

The evening will include dinner and an open bar.

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Strange was killed in eastern Afghanistan in 2011. He was among 38 killed when their Chinook helicopter was shot down by insurgents using a rocket-propelled grenade.

Strange, 25, grew up on the 6100 block of Algard St. in Wissinoming and graduated from St. Bartholomew Elementary School and North Catholic High School. He signed up for the military in August 2004, two months after graduating from North Catholic.

He was deployed once to Iraq and three times to Afghanistan, and was engaged to be married.

Tickets cost $100, and proceeds benefit the Michael Strange Foundation, which provides support and services to families of fallen service members.

Benefit will fund construction of Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial

A beef-and-beer benefit will be held for the planned Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial on Saturday, March 31, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Pennsylvania National Guard Armory, 2700 Southampton Road.

Tickets cost $35. The evening will include raffles, baskets and music. Proceeds will go toward the construction of a memorial to honor the 288 men and women from Pennsylvania killed in Iraq and Afghanistan in the Global War on Terrorism since 2001. The site will be in the waterfront area of Penn’s Landing, just yards away from the Korean and Vietnam war memorials.

Donations sought for Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl mural project

The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame and Spike’s Trophies are partnering with the Philadelphia Mural Arts program to create an Eagles Super Bowl mural. The mural will be painted on the side of Spike’s building, at 2701 Grant Ave. Fundraising is underway to help defray the costs of paint, supplies, labor and other expenses

The design features Nick Foles, Alshon Jeffery, Brandon Graham, Zach Ertz, coach Doug Pederson, the Lombardi Trophy and Jason Kelce in his Mummers costume.

For donations above the “Super Bowl LII” level of $52, the contributor’s name will be on the permanent plaque dedicating the mural. A Go Fund Me page has been established for fans to contribute: gofundme.com/championsmural ••
