The Northeast Times provides an overview of crimes reported to the four police districts in the Northeast. The details are based on reports compiled by the Northeast Detectives division of the Philadelphia Police Department.
2nd Police District
There were nine robberies. Four happened in the street at 6300 Frontenac St. (March 6), 500 McKinley St. (March 17), 300 Sanger St. (March 17) and 7100 Large St. (March 10). The first three incidents involved a handgun. Two robberies targeted businesses with handguns. These were a drugstore at 7200 Castor Ave. (March 10) and a chain store at 6400 Castor Ave. (March 14). The last three incidents took place at private residences. These were located at 1400 Stevens St. (March 12), 700 Rhawn St. (March 16) and 1000 Howell St. (March 15). The first two incidents involved handguns.
There were nine aggravated assaults, which yielded three arrests. Lavingston Greene, 47, was arrested on March 11 after an incident involved a knife on the street of 4600 Roosevelt Blvd. Rony Tiul, 21, was arrested March 12 after an incident involving a knife at 2000 Hellerman Ave. A third person was arrested after an aggravated assault happened on the street of 900 Granite St. on March 18. The rest of the assaults took place on the street of 6100 Algon Ave. (March 5); at private residences at 5700 Hasbrook Ave. (March 8), 6300 Horrocks St. (March 18), and 900 Granite St. (March 18); and an apartment house at 1200 Friendship St. (March 10).
Four of the six burglaries targeted private residences. These took place at 600 Benner St. (March 8), 500 Benner St. (March 8), 1300 Devereaux Ave. (March 17), and an attempt at 6300 Algon Ave. (March 16). A restaurant at 2100 Cottman Ave. was burglarized March 10, and a barber shop at 500 Sanger St. was burglarized March 5.
Of the 69 thefts, 32 targeted vehicles (including two vehicle tag thefts), 25 targeted businesses, seven targeted private residences or apartment houses, and five happened on the street. At least 35 of the thefts were of $200 or more. Nine arrests were made. In addition, 12 vehicles were reported stolen, seven of which were recovered. Two arrests were made.
7th Police District
A robbery involving a handgun was reported on the street at 2300 Strahle St. on March 13.
Five aggravated assaults resulted in two arrests. Christine Strada, 51, was arrested March 16 in relation to a domestic assault at an apartment house at 13100 Bustleton Ave. Shatiya Jackson, 34, was arrested March 14 after a domestic assault on the street of 10100 Northeast Blvd. Two assaults happened on the street at 1900 Grant Ave. (March 14), which involved a handgun, and 600 Red Lion Road (March 7). An assault took place on a SEPTA bus or trolley at 9900 Bustleton Ave. on March 9.
Both reported burglaries targeted apartment houses. They were located at 2300 Tremont St. (March 16) and 400 Byberry Road (March 11).
Of the 37 thefts, 13 were from businesses, 12 were from vehicles, eight were from private residences or apartment houses, three were from the street and one from a doctor’s office. Sixteen of the thefts were plunders of $200 or more. Four arrests were made. In addition, eight vehicles were reported stolen, seven of which have been recovered.
8th Police District
Each of the three reported robberies resulted in an arrest. Alex Granroth, 24, was arrested on March 18 in relation to two. He robbed a gas station at 4000 Woodhaven Road at gunpoint on March 9, and a chain store at 3200 Byberry Road at gunpoint the same day. For more information on Granroth’s arrest, click here. Christina Eaton, 27, was arrested after robbing a chain store at 1400 Franklin Mills Circle on March 8.
There were no reported aggravated assaults.
There were 10 burglaries. Granroth was arrested for burglarizing a church at 12600 Dunks Ferry Road on March 9. Michael Armstrong, 61, was arrested March 16 after burglarizing a private residence at 11900 Farwell Road. Other burglaries took place at apartment houses at 8300 Frankford Ave. (March 14), 9300 Ashton Road (March 16), 3400 Red Lion Road (March 17) and 2700 Axe Factory Road (March 6); a clothing store at 9400 Roosevelt Blvd. (March 15); a retail store at 1600 Franklin Mills Circle (March 13); a private residence at 2200 Ashwood Ave. (March 14); and an unspecified location at 9000 Ashton Road (March 17).
Of the 38 thefts, 17 targeted businesses, eight targeted vehicles, five targeting private residences or apartment houses, three at shopping malls at 1455 Franklin Mill and 1400 Franklin Mills Circle, two in parking lots, one on the street, one at a residential garage and one at an unspecified location. Five arrests were made. In addition, 11 vehicles were stolen, seven of which have been recovered. One arrest was made.
15th Police District
There were 19 robberies, almost all of which happened in the street. These happened at 3100 Barnett St. (March 5), 6000 Ditman St. (March 6), the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Sellers Street (March 9); 4700 Oakmont St. (March 10); 1300 Unity St. (March 14); 5300 Torresdale Ave. (March 16); 4100 E. Cheltenham Ave. (March 17); 5300 Darrah St. (March 18); 7500 Roosevelt Blvd. (March 9); 3200 Disston St. (March 7); the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Margaret Street (March 7); the intersection of Margaret Street and Torresdale Avenue (March 9); 1200 Fillmore St. (March 11); the intersection of Rowland and Ryan avenues (March 17); 4500 Sheffield Ave. (March 8); 4200 Torresdale Ave. (March 15); and 1200 Bridge St. (March 12). A robbery took place at a mini market at 5200 Torresdale Ave. on March 10, and a private residence at 4700 Melrose St. (March 6).
There were 23 reported aggravated assaults, which yielded nine arrests. Incidents on the street include 4200 Longshore Ave. (March 8), 3000 Robbins St. (March 12), 5200 Duffield St. (March 12), 1400 Foulkrod St. (March 15), 2300 Orthodox St. (March 17), 3200 Longshore Ave. (March 18) and 5200 Ditman St. (March 13). Quadre McCollum, 23, James Parks, 28, Darnell Wheeler, 32, Dimitri Wheeler, 22, and Jeremias Olivo, 41, were all arrested in relation to assaults at private residences or apartment houses. Shawn Bradley, 26, Nahtanha Waters, 35, and Margaret Suarez, 42, were all arrested due to assaults on the street.
There were 17 burglaries. They happened at private residences at 3000 Teesdale St. (March 5), 5800 Akron St. (March 18), 2000 Larue St. (March 6), 1900 Ruan St. (March 7), 6300 Leonard St. (March 12), 3300 Cottman Ave. (March 12) and 7100 Edmund St. (March 8). Burglaries also happened at apartment houses at 5100 Torresdale Ave. (March 11), 4500 Bleigh Ave. (March 13) and 1100 Foulkrod St. (March 16); a retail store at 5300 Oxford Ave. (March 15); a doctor’s office at 5300 Oxford Ave. (March 5); an auto dealer at 4100 Torresdale Ave. (March 11); a skating rink at 7000 Roosevelt Blvd. (March 13); on the street at 5700 Frankford Ave. (March 14) and 3500 Cottman Ave. (March 13); and an unlisted location at 4300 Griscom St. (March 17). Two arrests were made.
The 85 reported thefts included 29 thefts from businesses, 28 from vehicles, nine from private residences or apartment houses, six on the street, and one from a gas station, a doctor’s office, a parking meter and SEPTA property each. At least 39 of the thefts were of $200 or more. Twelve arrests were made. In addition, 39 vehicles were reported stolen, at least 20 of which have been recovered. One arrest was made. ••
