2,300-pound tire removed from creek

The Friends of Poquessing Watershed cleaned up Glen Foerd Mansion as part of Love Your Park week.

The Friends of Poquessing Watershed on Saturday held a cleanup on the grounds of Glen Foerd Mansion, where the Poquessing Creek flows to meet the Delaware River.

Ten volunteers collected 12 bags of trash, consisting mostly of small pieces of plastic and Styrofoam that washed up along the creek’s edge.

The group thanks the Philadelphia Water Department for bringing in a special truck and hauling a 2,300-pound tire from the creek.

The Friends’ next cleanup is Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Waldemire and Ronnald drives.

The cleanup will be,part of the city’s Love Your Park Week. The public is welcome to assist in the cleanup. ••
