Little has been communicated to residents about new activity on the Red Lion Road site.
A massive warehouse could be coming to an already busy section of Northeast Philadelphia — and concerned residents know very little about it.
Commercial Development Corp. has purchased 138 acres of the former Budd Co. railcar plant located at 1 Red Lion Road. According to Philly.com, there are plans for three large buildings that take up more than 1.6 million square feet.
Officials from Somerton and Bustleton civic leagues have received no information about the property other than what was officially released, said Jack O’Hara, president of the Greater Bustleton Civic League.
Councilman Brian O’Neill also said he has heard nothing.
“I contacted CDC a couple weeks ago but haven’t heard anything back,” he said.
O’Hara said the GBCL accepts and welcomes new neighbors to the community, but that he also wants assurance it will not have a negative impact on the community. He raised concerns about studies being done to see how it could impact the community, including traffic safety, road upgrades and truck staging.
The site was formerly owned by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, which planned to open a warehouse that never came to be. Commercial reportedly bought the property from Teva for $18 million. ••
