Ryan, Bell beat Wood to advance to Catholic League softball final

Archbishop Ryan topped Archbishop Wood 3–0.

Freshman pitcher Dana Bell dominated on Wednesday to lead Archbishop Ryan to a 3–0 victory over Archbishop Wood in a Catholic League softball semifinal at La Salle University.

Bell faced the minimum 21 batters. She allowed one hit and no walks while striking out 11.

Ryan (19–2), the top seed, advanced to the final against Lansdale Catholic, a 15–4 winner over Bonner-Prendergast. The final will be Friday at 3 p.m. at La Salle.

Wood, the fourth seed, finished 10–8.

Ryan, which has won three of the last four championships, scored two runs in the first inning, one on a Meghan Kidd RBI single and the other on a throwing error.

Ryan added a run in the third on a wild pitch.

Bell improved to 16–1.

Kidd and Kate Ostaszewski each went 2-for-3.

Ryan has also clinched a berth in the District 12 Class 5A championship game against a Public League opponent and guaranteed itself a spot in the PIAA playoffs. ••
