A community cleanup had been slated for April 7, but it was postponed due to inclement weather. Members of the community will start by cleaning their own blocks and the business corridor on Torresdale Avenue, then proceed to start from opposite ends of the neighborhood and meet in the middle at Joe’s Steaks for completion. The rescheduled date has yet to be released, but it will be posted on the Wissinoming Civic Association Facebook group.

For new business, a number of individuals from different organizations and local elected officials relayed messages of upcoming events.

A community prayer organized by True Vine Church Community and Grace City Church of Wissinoming is set to take place Sunday, June 10, at 6 p.m. on the corner of Torresdale Avenue and Benner Street.

Gaspar Santos, community initiative specialist for Northeast Neighborhood Libraries, was present to deliver Tacony Library’s plans for the month of June.

For Philly Beer Week, Tacony Library will be hosting a free event June 6 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. that will teach those interested in learning how to read a craft beer menu and provide samples.

For Immigrant Heritage Month, Tacony Library has set up a number of events to highlight a specific immigrant population for each week of the month. The ethnic groups that will be highlighted will be those of Albanian, Chinese, Arabic, Ukrainian and Puerto Rican descent.

An LGBT Pride Month discussion on certain readings in the Bible will take place at Tacony Library on Wednesday, June 13, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

A representative from state Sen. Christine Tartaglione’s office was present to discuss the upcoming public hearing on PECO’s proposed rate increases. The public hearing will take place at Kingdom Life Christian Center (Devon Theater), 6325 Frankford Ave., on Thursday, June 14, at 6 p.m.

A representative from Councilman David Oh’s office was at the meeting to discuss the Criminal and Defiant Trespassers Bill, Bill №180430. This bill hopes to combat the “squatter” issue that is present in specific neighborhoods of the city.

The last meeting for the civic association before summer will take place on Tuesday, June 26, at Daly’s Irish Pub, 4201 Comly St.

The civic association is also hoping to hold its first meeting of the fall at NewCourtland on Sept. 25, 7 p.m., to get a look at the new facility. Tartaglione will be invited. ••
