A Mayfair resident received the Summit Award, Venturing Crew 1776’s highest honor.

Mayfair resident Avery Sytsma, of Venturing Crew 1776, recently received Venturing’s highest honor, the Summit Award, at her Court of Honor at Saints United Lutheran Church, 3200 Ryan Ave.

Avery, who is the founding president of her crew, received a citation from the office of City Councilman Al Taubenberger.

Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women 14 to 21 years of age.

“We are so proud of Avery and all that she has contributed as a leader in our Venturing program,” said Dan Templar, Scout Executive/CEO, Cradle of Liberty, Boy Scouts of America. “She brings a high level of talent, grit, discipline and leadership to every task, and her energy is contagious. She is most deserving of this award.”

In addition to the Summit Award, Avery received the Council Venturing Leadership Award and the Union League’s Good Citizen Award. ••
