The sound of the lifeguard whistle being blown by Mayor Jim Kenney at Lawncrest Recreation Center on June 19 officially began the opening of the 2018 Philadelphia public pool season.

A large group of kids from the area patiently awaited the news conference held by Kenney, City Councilwoman Cherelle Parker and Kathryn Ott Lovell, commissioner of the city Department of Parks & Recreation.
