Memorial walk planned to honor those killed on Boulevard

The nonprofit LIVE for Kay will hold a memorial walk on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 7 to 9 a.m.

The walk will remember the lives lost on Roosevelt Boulevard.

The nonprofit was founded in memory of 17-year-old Markaylah Jackson, a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver near Roosevelt Boulevard and Summerdale Avenue on June 16, 2016, the day before her high school graduation.

The route will begin at Friends Hospital, north to Oxford Circle and south on Summerdale Avenue to Houseman Recreation Center, where a drill team will perform.

There will be a block party on Summerdale Avenue, outside the rec center, from noon to 8 p.m. The party will include live entertainment, information tables, music, a marketplace, back-to-school giveaways and free haircuts and mini manicures. ••
