Eleven students from the Northeast received the 2018 Philadelphia City Scholarship.
Fifty-three high school seniors received the 2018 Philadelphia City Scholarship, intended for Philadelphia graduates who will attend college in the five-county area.
Recipients receive $1,000 per year for up to four years of college.
Scholarship recipients were selected from a pool of more than 300 applicants. The selection criteria included GPA, financial need and personal essay. Students’ leadership abilities and academic achievements were considered by a review committee.
Local recipients are Amman Dean, Northeast High School (attending Holy Family University); Valeriia Gurtovia, George Washington High School (University of the Sciences); Armin Mahdavi, Swenson Arts and Technology (West Chester University); Joanna Myrtaj, Philadelphia Academy Charter High School (Drexel University); Rohan Nainan, George Washington (University of the Sciences); Diana Nguyen, Philadelphia Academy Charter (University of Pennsylvania); Keely Nilan, St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls (St. Joseph’s University); Rachel Pierson, George Washington (Holy Family); Jermaine Presbery, Abraham Lincoln High School (Eastern University); Brian Schindler, Father Judge High School (Temple University); and Auria Unland, Arts Academy at Rush High School (Jefferson — East Falls). ••
