Police arrested a man after he hit and killed a pedestrian in the Far Northeast Sept 2.
Police have made an arrest in a hit and run incident that killed a 64-year-old pedestrian on Sunday, Sept. 2.
Joseph Thompson, 52, from the 3100 block of Draper Street, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, accident involving death and related offenses.
The accident took place at 3:57 p.m. on Sunday at the 10900 block of Academy Road. Thompson was seen driving very fast before swerving into the right shoulder and striking the pedestrian, who was thrown into the air and landed on the road.
He fled the scene southbound on Academy Road in a 2003 White Ford F-150. It had sustained heavy front end damage to the hood.
The pedestrian was identified as Yvonne Cantz, who lived on the 3000 block of Derry Terrace. She was transported to Jefferson Torresdale and pronounced dead at 4:29 p.m. ••
