The Vieux family of Northeast Philadelphia will appear on Sept. 12’s episode of ‘Family Feud.’
For the Vieux family, competing on Family Feud was just another group activity.
The siblings, who are scattered across Northeast neighborhoods like Lawncrest and the Far Northeast, will appear on Sept. 12’s episode of the famous game show. And according to them, the show’s producers have never seen another family like them.
“I don’t want to hype it too much, but if they didn’t edit too much of the tape, this will be the funniest episode,” Marc Vieux said. “We had everybody laughing from the cameramen to Steve Harvey.”
Lovely Vieux signed her siblings Marc, Daphnee, Andrew and Pascale, up for show auditions without telling any of them.
“When they [the producers] replied and sent me the time and location of the audition, I told them right then and there,” she said.
Everyone was on board.
“We always watch the show and say we’re going to go someday,” Lovely said. “I just submitted it and said, OK guys, this is serious.”
There’s no way to be able to prepare for the questions, but the siblings quizzed each other on the drive up to Connecticut to audition last October.
Sticking out at auditions wasn’t a problem — Lovely introduced the family to the producers as the “champs.” The Vieuxs confessed they are loud when they’re together (as Marc and Lovely talked over each other), and their energy was exactly what the show was looking for.
A producer asked them to harmonize after they each said they could sing. They harmonized on a Creole song in their native language they had sung together as kids.
“He was holding two documents in his hand and he just dropped them,” Marc said. “He almost cried and shook.”
“We sang in Creole, and he didn’t understand a word we said,” Lovely said. “He doesn’t know what we said but we said something.”
Being siblings helped them develop a team synergy. When asked if there was an MVP on the team, the siblings were fair and said they all participated equally — but Lovely got extra points for charming Steve Harvey.
“I was talking to Mr. Harvey so much and was telling him all about us,” she said. “He’s such a personable person and I felt so comfortable that my regular natural personality came out.”
The Vieuxs were impressed with how at home they felt at both the audition and filming the actual show in California in early March, saying the producers took care of “every detail.”
They went to have fun as a family, but also wanted to send a message.
“We are of Haitian descent and we are immigrants with our citizens status in this country,” Lovely said. “Our parents made a life for us to the point that we all became successful.”
All siblings graduated college or will soon with degrees in fields like journalism, nursing and law.
“We just wanted to represent and show we are hardworking citizens,” she said.
But they also went to honor their late father, who passed away about three years ago. Family was the most important thing to him.
“He raised us to be best friends,” Marc said.
The episode will air on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7 and 7:30 p.m. on GSN. ••
