The event is in honor of Alisha Levin, a Castor Gardens native, was killed on Sept. 11, 2001.
The eighth annual Alisha C. Levin Run to Remember will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at Northeast High School, 1601 Cottman Ave.
Levin, who grew up on Wells Street in Castor Gardens, was killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. She was 33.
Levin was a 1986 graduate of Northeast. She later graduated from Hofstra University. She worked for three years for Fuji Bank in the World Trade Center’s South Tower.
On the day of the attacks, terrorists first crashed an airplane into the North Tower. Seventeen minutes later, a plane struck the South Tower.
Fuji Bank, which occupied the 79th through 82nd floors, lost 23 employees. Levin was the company’s vice president of human resources.
Levin also received a master’s degree from Columbia University. She loved her work and loved working at the World Trade Center, a place where she could socialize, grab a bite to eat and participate in after-work activities, according to an online biography.
Saturday’s event supports the Alisha C. Levin Memorial Fund, which is used to provide scholarships and fund programs for Northeast High School and Hofstra University students.
Registration for the 5K run/walk will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and participants can also sign up in advance by visiting the Alisha C. Levin Memorial Fund’s Facebook page. The cost is $25.
The 5K will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by an award and trophy presentation at 10:45 a.m.
