Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 17, 7163 Hegerman St. in Tacony, recently dedicated a monument in memory of its namesake, the Rev. Aloysius P. McGonigal.

McGonigal, a Jesuit from St. Leo Parish, was a U.S. Army major and Roman Catholic chaplain who was killed on the battlefield in Vietnam on Jan. 17, 1968 as he was attempting to rescue a wounded Marine.

The dedication day included music by Ballina and Mummers and an appearance by members of the McGonigal family.

AOH Division 17 is attempting to obtain the Medal of Honor for McGonigal. ••
