Shopping for a cause
The Marlyn Fein Chapter, Fox Chase Cancer Center is partnering with the Boscov’s “Friends Helping Friends” campaign on Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The group is selling a shopping pass for $5 at all Boscov’s locations, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The pass allows for savings of up to 25 percent off purchases.
Proceeds will be donated to Fox Chase Cancer Center to support cancer research and compassionate patient care. For information, call 215–938–1323. ••
Herremans, Hollis Thomas coming to Mayfair
Former Eagles Todd Herremans and Hollis Thomas will sign autographs and pose for photos on Thursday, Oct. 11, during the WIP Go Birds pre-game show and podcast. Because of an expected storm, the event has been moved inside to Hammerheads Sports Bar, 3517 Cottman Ave. The podcast, co-hosted by James Seltzer and John Barchard, will begin at 6 p.m. The Eagles game against the New York Giants will start at 8:20 p.m.
The evening will include the WIP prize patrol.

John Birch Society meeting on Tuesday
The John Birch Society will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, Rhawn and Ditman streets. A video, Enumerated vs. Unlimited Power, will be shown. The motto of the John Birch Society is “Less Government, More Responsibility and — With God’s Help — A Better World.” ••
Tacony Historical Society meeting Monday
The Historical Society of Tacony will meet on Monday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Tacony Library, 6742 Torresdale Ave.
The meeting will feature updates on a variety of initiatives, including the historic house plaque program and the next Tacony property to be nominated to the Philadelphia Historical Commision.
Board member Charles McCloskey will present a discussion about the Saltar collection, a collection of diaries, letters, records and ephemera recently acquired by the Friends of Northeast Philadelphia History.

Workshops at Mt. Zion Baptist

John J. Nesbitt reunion on Wednesday
The 47th reunion of former employees of John J. Nesbitt will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. at Tiffany Diner, 9010 Roosevelt Blvd.
Nesbitt was a large commercial heating and air conditioning company at State Road and Rhawn Street.

St. Tim’s to hold anniversary Mass
St. Timothy Parish will celebrate the closing of its 90th anniversary observance on Sunday, Oct. 14, with a Mass at noon in the upper church, 3001 Levick St.
The principal celebrant will be Auxiliary Bishop Timothy C. Senior. The homilist will be Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan.
A gala banquet will follow at the Regal Ballroom, 5411 Oxford Ave., where there will be cocktails, dinner and dancing.

Food distribution volunteers needed
Feast of Justice, 3101 Tyson Ave., is in need of volunteers to assist with receiving food deliveries on Mondays and Fridays and distributing food and other services to the community on Fridays and Saturdays.

Learn car safety features
The AARP has developed a 90-minute Smart DriverTEK program on new vehicle safety features to assist motorists who are considering a new car purchase or who have recently purchased a car.
The safety features reviewed include smart headlights, reverse monitoring systems, blind spot warning systems, lane departure warning systems, forward collision warning and emergency braking, drowsy driver alerts, assistive parking and adaptive cruise control.
Workshops will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, Red Lion and Knights roads, and on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at The Villages at Pine Valley Clubhouse, 8540 Verree Road.

Dougherty alumni band looking for members
The Cardinal Dougherty Alumni Band is seeking players of all band instruments.
The community-based organization is dedicated to continuing the high standards of musical excellence established by the original Dougherty music program. The band is comprised of members of all ages and skills, and plays a wide range of concert band music under the direction of Peter Palan. Performances are year round.
The band rehearses every Monday from 7:30 to 9:15 p.m., except major holidays, in the second-floor band room at Archbishop Ryan High School, 11201 Academy Road.

Ben Franklin coming to All Saints’ Torresdale History Committee
All Saints’ Torresdale History Committee will be hosting a fall forum on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the church, 9601 Frankford Ave.
Guests will learn about the 106-year-old history of All Saints’ Day School from its Montessori roots in 1912 to its heyday at Pen Ryn to present day.
After the presentation, there will be a graveyard tour featuring stories of the educators. Benjamin Franklin will entertain with stories about his friend, Edward Duffield, first president of the Trustees of the Lower Dublin Academy.
Refreshments and light breakfast fare will be available. The event is free.
