The group that assists people with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities hosted a race to have fun and raise money.
Special People In Northeast Inc.’s costume-themed Boo & Brew 5K and After Party on Sunday raised plenty of money for SPIN, which assists children and adults with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities. SPIN also provides early childhood education for children of all abilities.
The 5K and 1-mile fun run was held at Neshaminy State Park, in Bensalem.
The fun continued for participants, spectators and supporters at Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, in Croydon, for a family-friendly after party, where there was a moonbounce, face painting, coloring, pumpkin painting and food truck. People had a chance to play on the brewing company’s pool table and its air hockey, bubble hockey, table soccer and video games.
“People are having a great time. It was a beautiful day for a run,” said Kathy McHale, president and CEO of SPIN.
Last year, SPIN served almost 3,800 children and adults. Awards were presented by Aetna’s Bill Farmer to the top overall male and female finishers, along with age-group winners and costume winners.
Jeremy Capella, 17, repeated as the winner. He completed the course in 19:23, 2:35 ahead of the runner-up.
Besides Aetna, sponsors included Mat’s Pharmacy & Medical Supply, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Superior Restoration, Steamfitters Local Union 420 and the Northeast Times. ••
