A Holmesburg resident used decorations from this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show to decorate his lawn for the neighborhood to enjoy.
There’s a colorful new sight in Holmesburg for people traveling along Ditman Street.
Resident Robert Quartucci beautified his outdoor space at the corner of Ditman and Meridian streets using leftover flower armatures from this year’s Philadelphia Flower Show.
Quartucci worked on this year’s show in March with Schaffer Designs and MuralArts. The armatures were originally used in an exhibit that matched the festival’s theme of watercolor paintings.
The seven multi-colored armatures, which Quartucci finished installing in August, are adorned with flowers and plants that match their color. Quartucci said he plans to plant some perennials next year.
“It’s all about making the community what you want it to be,” Quartucci said.
He said people sometimes don’t clean up after themselves in the area, and he hopes his display shows that residents are putting effort into beautifying the area.
Quartucci has a background working with flowers, working with Schaffer for the last seven years and at one point owning his own business. He said he was once a major exhibitor at the Flower Show himself. ••
