Tacony block turns haunted for a good cause.
You have heard of a haunted house. If you read the Oct. 10 edition of the Northeast Times, you may even know about a haunted church.
But what about a haunted block?
A Tacony family turned a portion of the 7000 block of Montague Street into a spooky attraction this past weekend. Nearly every inch of 15 lawns on the block were decked out with Halloween decor.
In addition, neighbors dressed up to scare those who dared to walk by. Perhaps the most frightening character was a bloody Teletubby wielding a large metal hook.
“This is our fifth year doing it here, and it just gets bigger and bigger every year,” said Mike Chambers, who organized “Mayhem on Montague” with his wife, Christine.
The event is free to attend, but attendees were encouraged to donate money or pet supplies for City of Elderly Love and Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia, two animal welfare organizations.
“Mayhem on Montage” came from Mike Chambers’ love of all things Halloween. He began working in haunted houses when he was 12, and he said the haunted block is just an extension of his passion.
Saturday night was rained out, but the attraction was open on Friday and Sunday. Chambers estimated 200 to 300 people showed up Friday, and he’s expecting more than 2,000 people to take in the sights and sounds on Halloween night, the final day of the event. ••
