Gorski created a first responders memorial in the rear of T.J. Fluehr Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 11010 Knights Road.
The Rev. John Babowitch, pastor of Our Lady of Calvary Church, blessed and dedicated the memorial.
The memorial features a flower box; two chairs; a bench that includes a box for drop-offs of worn and torn American flags for their retirement in a respectful and dignified way; three American flags, including one with a blue stripe for police officers and one with a red stripe for firefighters; and a sign explaining the project.
“I’m very happy with the way it turned out,” Gorski said.
Gorski, 18, joined Troop 460 as a Tiger Scout in first grade. He attended Our Lady of Calvary and FitzPatrick elementary schools and is a senior at Science Leadership Academy, 22nd and Arch streets, where he is an outfielder on the baseball team.
Gorski said his favorite part of Scouts is camping.
“I like being outdoors,” he said.
Gorski is awaiting his board of review and court of honor ceremony.
Ken Gorski, Eric’s dad, is the Scoutmaster and a first responder, working in the police department’s major crimes unit. He takes his Scouting leadership role seriously.
“In our eyes, it’s about having the boys become better young men,” he said.
Eric Gorski has worked two summers at the Ockanickon Scout Reservation in Plumsteadville, as a counselor in training and at the rifle and shotgun range.
The teenager is an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 460. He hopes to attend Drexel University and major in computer science or architecture. ••
