Donations sought to help local families

It’s less than a week before Christmas, and the 70th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund is here to help local families.

We are hearing from lots of people needing help. A Frankford woman wants to be able to provide for her four children. A Holmesburg woman is raising her three grandchildren after her daughter’s death. A Tacony woman is raising her two grandchildren, including one who is a paraplegic.

In the last seven decades, Times readers have made donations to help thousands of their neighbors.

All money collected is used to buy gift cards to provide holiday dinners and children’s gifts to Northeast families struggling to make ends meet.

We’ll publish your name in a list of donors. If you prefer to donate anonymously, we will honor that request.

If you would like to request help, please write a letter to:

Include a name and contact information for an agency or person for verification. Everything about the process will remain anonymous.

If you are able to donate, please send a check to the Eleanor Smylie Community Fund at the address above. Any amount will help.

Thank you for your consideration. ••
