Jazz concert scheduled for Sunday

Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road, will host An Evening of Jazz on Sunday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m.

The event will feature a performance by Phyllis Chapell.

The cost is $21 and includes dessert.

Matilda: The Musical wraps up Saturday

The Walnut Street Theatre’s 210th season is underway.

Matilda The Musical will play through Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.

Ken Ludwig’s A Comedy of Tenors, starring Frank Ferrante, will follow from Jan. 15 to March 4.

The season will continue with the Tony Award-winning play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time from March 12 to April 28.

Finally, Legally Blonde: The Musical will be on stage from May 14 to June 30.

High school kids invited to enter film festival

The 2019 Philadelphia Youth Film Festival is now open for submissions from creative high school students. Films can be developed on any medium, including a phone, in a studio or on a computer, and entry categories include: Narrative Short, Documentary Short, Screenplay and Experimental/Other.

Author to speak at history meeting

The Northeast Philadelphia History Network will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. at Pennepack Baptist Church, 8732 Krewstown.

The speaker will be Stephen Fried, who has written a book on Dr. Benjamin Rush, a medical pioneer and founding father. Fried will sign copies of his autobiography.

Refreshments prepared by Patty McCarthy will be available afterward. ••

Half-price clothing sale

The Classroom Thrift Shop, 4301 Tyson Ave., sponsored by the women of Temple Menorah Keneseth Chai, will hold its half-price clothing sale Jan. 2-11.

Open house for railroad club

The Abington Lines Model Railroad Club, 2066 Second Street Pike in Richboro, will host several open houses.

Open houses are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on the following weekend days: Jan. 5-6 and 12-13 and Feb. 2-3 and 9-10. Admission is free. Donations are accepted.

Mahjong class starting at KleinLife
