Happy to help: The Block Gives Back helped feed 200 homeless people in Center City. They also supplied them with bags filled with toiletries.
The Block Gives Back finished another year of giving by feeding 200 homeless people and distributing bags and pocketbooks at 16th Street and JFK Boulevard.
The catered meal included water, hot chocolate and a “Merry Christmas” cake. Block members brought tables and chairs from their home base, Frankford’s Carmella Playground, so diners could eat in comfort.
Leading up to the feeding, members gathered at Carmella and filled 200 bags with soap, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hats, gloves, Vaseline, combs, ChapStick, deodorant, hand sanitizer and baby powder.
The items were collected in boxes placed at local businesses.
The pocketbooks were donated by a supporter and were filled with women’s supplies.
The Thomas & Woods Foundation donated $1,000 to the event and supplied volunteers. ••
