Kutztown University will have 92 student-athletes representing its track and field program for the 2018-19 season. KU is under the guidance of 13-year coach Ray Hoffman. KU’s home opener was Jan. 10-11, with the Golden Bear Invitational at O’Pake Fieldhouse. Local members of the team are Meghan Forsythe, Megan Kirn, Anthony Fratanduono, Gregory Hoch and Ryan Riley.

Bianca Wolford was recently awarded a Love of Learning Award worth $500 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Wolford is one of 100 recipients nationwide to receive the award.
Wolford, a student at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, will use the funds from the award to aid in funding the balance of her 2018-2019 tuition and for purchasing the required casebooks for the spring semester. Wolford was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2016 at Penn State.

Sophomore Michael Hnatkowsky, of the Muhlenberg College football team, was named to the All-Centennial Conference second team.
Hnatkowsky, a Pine Valley resident and graduate of Penn Charter, set school records for passing yards (3,101) and passing touchdowns (31). In two seasons, he has compiled a 17-4 record as a starter and already ranks fourth in program history with 5,192 career passing yards.
Muhlenberg went 11-2 in 2018, tying the school record for wins, winning a share of its 10th Centennial Conference championship and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III championships for the first time.

A total of 472 students received degrees from East Stroudsburg University on Dec. 15 at Koehler Fieldhouse.
There were 422 bachelor’s degrees, 46 master’s degrees and four doctoral degree awarded.
Local graduates were Shante Dorin (business management), Marquis Lane (business management), Devonna Marshall (psychology), Jonae Cooper (business management), Marc Lentine (criminal justice), Laura Null (communication) and Nora Mele (exercise science).

Emily Smith, a St. Hubert High School graduate, was named a 2019 team captain for the Kutztown University women’s lacrosse team. Smith and fellow seniors Lauren Schmidt and Jordan Klebe received the honor given by coach Jackie Stezzi and her staff.
Last season, Smith started in all 17 games at midfield and finished the season with 17 goals and 10 assists. She ended with 56 ground balls, and now has 127 in her career, sixth all-time at KU. Smith also ranks fourth all-time with 66 caused turnovers and has started in 51 career games.
Kutztown opens its 2019 campaign at Jefferson on March 2.

Caitlyn Berdel, a St. Hubert High School graduate, is one of 700 Lebanon Valley College students named to the dean’s list for the fall semester. Dean’s list students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.4 out of 4.0. Berdel is pursuing a bachelor of science in early childhood education and special education.

Immaculata University announced that Daniel Benonis, of Bustleton, has joined the music department as the coordinator of clinical training and instructor of music therapy. After earning his undergraduate degree in music therapy from Immaculata, Benonis returned to the university to complete his Master of Arts in music therapy. He is working toward a Doctorate of Philosophy in music therapy at Temple University. “We’ve all got the music inside of us. It can change us, move us, or meet us where we are,” he said. ••
