Police, Mural Arts visit Take Back Your Neighborhood

Last week’s Take Back Your Neighborhood meeting featured remarks from representatives of the Philadelphia Police Department, Mural Arts Philadelphia and Max Myers Playground.

Mark Mroz, community relations officer in the 2nd Police District, said that, in all seven thefts from autos from Feb. 11-18, the doors were unlocked.

Mroz said arrests were made in the robbery and shooting of two men who went to Roosevelt Mall, near Wendy’s, to sell pot. The officers involved in the arrests are being nominated for heroism awards.

Mroz added that Northeast Detectives continues to look for two masked gunmen who burst into a home on the 2200 block of Rhawn St., tied up three people and stole $400. The suspects might have entered the wrong house, investigators believe.

Mroz said adults were charged in the case of a 14-year-old girl shot in the face by a 12-year-old boy in a home on the 2000 block of Glendale Ave. The officer said free gun locks are available at police districts.

Jessica Lewis-Turner told the crowd that a mural will be coming to a wall at 6826 Bustleton Ave.

Max Myers recreation leader Charles Christman invited boys and girls ages 5-10 to sign up for the 12-week Sixers Neighborhood Basketball League. Parents can stop in Max Myers, 1601 Hellerman St., or call 215-685-1242 to sign up their kids. The program is also being offered at Simpson, 1010 Arrott St. (215-685-1223).
