Hazardous waste collection on Saturday

City Councilman Brian O’Neill announced the city Department of Streets will collect household hazardous waste on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at State Road and Ashburner Street. 

No waste materials generated by a business will be accepted. This event will be held rain or shine.

Clothing drive to benefit cancer care

The Marlyn Fein Chapter, Fox Chase Cancer Center, is running a clothing drive on April 6.

The dropoff location is 604 Township Line Road, Cheltenham (near the intersection of Laurel Avenue and Church Road).

Gently used clothing, accessories, books and small trinkets in bags or boxed will be accepted.

Participation helps support cancer research and patient care at Fox Chase Cancer Center. ••

Auditions for music program

The nonprofit Share the Spotlight is holding auditions for musicians in grades six through 12 for a tuition-free summer rock music program. Auditions take place at Keystone Soundworks, 4900 Longshore Ave., beginning on April 5. 

To audition, students can learn any song by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Aretha Franklin on guitar, bass, drum set, keyboard or vocals. They should have some experience on their instrument and be highly motivated to practice and learn new parts.

The program will meet twice a week through June and July and perform an end-of-the-season show in a professional venue.

T-ball at Houseman Rec Center

Houseman Recreation Center, 5091 Summerdale Ave., is holding a spring t-ball league for boys and girls ages 4 to 7.

College event to be held on April 10

High school juniors and their parents are invited to an event sponsored by the Father Judge and St. Hubert guidance departments on Wednesday, April 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the St. Hubert auditorium, Torresdale and Cottman avenues.

College admissions officers will provide information and answer questions. Guest speakers from La Salle, Holy Family, and Community College of Philadelphia will discuss the application process and selection by admissions officers. All are welcome. ••

Learn more about railroads at meeting

The Northeast Philadelphia History Network will meet on Wednesday, April 3, at 7 p.m. at Pennepack Baptist Church, 8732 Krewstown Road.

The topic will be Railroads in Northeast Philadelphia. The presenter will be author Ed Duffy. ••

New comedy club at Dave & Buster’s

All For Laughs, a comedy club, has opened at Dave & Buster’s in Philadelphia Mills.

There will be a show on Saturday, April 6, at 8 p.m. Dave Temple will headline with Mike Clements and Lump Hamilton.

Our Lady of Consolation Church, 7051 Tulip St., will host palm making from April 8-12, from 1 to 9 p.m.

Holy Family welcomes author

On Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m., Holy Family University’s Polish Series will welcome Judith Kelly, author of Just Call Me Jerzy: Popieluszko in the United States and Canada, to discuss her book in the Education and Technology Center auditorium, Frankford and Grant avenues.

Jerzy Popieluszko followed an ordinary vocation to priesthood but found himself caught up in extraordinary times, to which he responded with nonviolent determination, quiet grace and fortitude. Readers following his story and his travels through the United States and Canada will see an unassuming human being raised to greatness by his wise and courageous choices. ••

Tickets on sale for Hall of Fame

The City All-Star Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame will hold its 28th annual awards banquet on Tuesday, April 9, at Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The inductees are Jim Ambrosius, Carmen Betoni, Keita Crespina, Ted Cushmore, Steve DiSangro, Sharrif Floyd, Rob Holiday, Marty Jackson, Joe Kaiser, William A. Lamb III, Bob Lynch, John Parsons and Veronica Smythe Snyder.

Vogt Seniors going to Rhode Island

The Tacony-based Vogt Seniors invite the public to a Rhode Island Foodie Tour from Sept. 17-19.

The trip will include a Spirit of Boston cruise with lunch and live entertainment, a guided tasting tour through a three-story Italian marketplace and a Little Italy Experience at Providence’s famous Federal Hill, featuring a demonstration of pasta and pizza making.

Holy Innocents going on casino trip

Holy Innocents Church will be holding a trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem on Tuesday, April 23. A bus will depart at 9 a.m. from L Street and Hunting Park Avenue. The bus will depart the Sands at 4:30 p.m.

The cost is $35, due by April 15. Guests will receive $25 in slot cash.

Craft show in old farmhouse

There will be a craft show from April 6-13 at Tamanend Park, 1255 Second Street Pike (between Bristol Road and Street Road) in Southampton.

Hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be an array of handmade crafts, candy, wreaths, jewelry, holiday gift items and more set out in an 18th-century farmhouse.
