Easter egg hunt in Wissinoming

Wissinoming Park is hosting an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m.

John J. Nesbitt reunion on May 1

The 48th reunion of former employees of John J. Nesbitt will take place on Wednesday, May 1, at 1 p.m. at Tiffany Diner, 9010 Roosevelt Blvd.

Nesbitt was a large commercial heating and air conditioning company at State Road and Rhawn Street.

Upcoming services at Immanuel Church

Immanuel Church, 14100 Worthington Road in Somerton, will hold a number of upcoming events.

There will be a Palm/Passion Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 14.

The church will celebrate Maundy Thursday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. A soup supper will be served at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m.

On Good Friday, April 19, there will be bilingual services at 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and a German language service at 3 p.m.

On Easter Saturday, April 20, there will be an Easter egg hunt at 12:30 p.m. Easter fire and fellowship is set for 7 p.m., followed by an Easter Eve vigil at 7:30 p.m. and champagne toast and dessert at 8:30 p.m.

Easter services will be at 6, 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 21. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. ••

College event on Wednesday night

High school juniors and their parents are invited to an event sponsored by the Father Judge and St. Hubert guidance departments on Wednesday, April 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the St. Hubert auditorium, Torresdale and Cottman avenues.

College admissions officers will provide information and answer questions. Guest speakers from La Salle, Holy Family, and Community College of Philadelphia will discuss the application process and selection by admissions officers.

Make palms at Our Lady of Consolation

Our Lady of Consolation Church, 7051 Tulip St., will host palm making through Friday, April 12, from 1 to 9 p.m.

Children are invited from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. They can use the event for school community hours.

Spring fling on Saturday

Prince of Peace Church, 6001 Colgate St., will host a spring fling on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The indoor festival will feature a flea market, baked goods, a seasonal table and gift basket raffles. Homemade soups and lunch will be available.

Pancake breakfast on Saturday

Holmesburg Baptist Church, 7927 Frankford Ave., is turning 190 years old.

The church is holding three events to celebrate.

There will be a special worship service on April 28, an outdoor community day and flea market on May 11 and a pancake breakfast on Saturday, April 13.

The breakfast will go from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The menu will include orange juice, all-you-can-eat pancakes, a side of sausage or bacon, breakfast cakes and coffee or milk with refills. The cost is $6, or $3.50 for children 6-12. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Rabbi being honored on Friday

Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, 8339 Old York Road in Elkins Park, will celebrate 18 years of service by Senior Rabbi Lance J. Sussman, by endowing the Lance J. Sussman Rabbinic Chair during a special Shabbat service on Friday, April 12, at 8 p.m.

Craft show in old farmhouse

There will be a craft show through Saturday, April 13, at Tamanend Park, 1255 Second Street Pike (between Bristol Road and Street Road) in Southampton. Hours are weekdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be an array of handmade crafts, candy, wreaths, jewelry, holiday gift items and more set out in an 18th-century farmhouse.

Northeast Regional Library, 2228 Cottman Ave., will host a workshop on how to start a business on Saturday, April 13, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The workshop is being coordinated by SCORE.

Event for veterans on Saturday

State Reps. Jared Solomon and Steve McCarter, together with Salus University, will host “A Conversation with Veterans” from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 13, at Salus University, 8360 Old York Road in Elkins Park.

Solomon said, “With this dialogue, we aim to learn from veterans, their families and support workers about how we as a society and a legislature can better address their needs.”

All veterans – from any branch of service – are invited to share their experiences. Post-9/11 veterans are strongly encouraged to attend.

PreK Enrollment Fair is Friday 

The Office of Early Childhood Education welcomes parents to a PreK Enrollment Fair on Friday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 440 N. Broad St.

Kids will get to meet Sesame Street characters. Parents can choose from 168 PreK sites.

Kevin Pollak to perform at synagogue

Actor and comedian Kevin Pollak, presently playing the role of Moishe Maisel on the Amazon TV series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, will perform at Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel, 8339 Old York Road in Elkins Park, on Saturday, April 13, at 8:30 p.m.

Holmesburg church turning 190

Holmesburg Baptist Church, 7927 Frankford Ave., is celebrating its 190th anniversary on April 22.

The building is the home of Holmesburg Christian Academy, educating children from preschool through eighth grade. The Rev. Edward B. Johnson has been pastor since 2002.

All are welcome to worship with the congregation on Sundays at 11 a.m.

A Sunday school for children and adults begins at 9:30 a.m.. Bible study is Wednesday evenings at 6. ••

Tree giveaway in Frankford

Registration is now open for the Frankford Community Development Corporation’s yard tree giveaway, which will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Womrath Park, Frankford and Kensington avenues. 

Trees must be planted in the city and on private property, not in containers or in the sidewalk. The event is being held in partnership with TreePhilly and the Frankford Garden Club. It will also feature free recycling bins and other sustainability resources

MANNA receiving leadership award

RSVP Philadelphia, based at KleinLife, will honor the Metropolitan Area Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA) and its CEO, Sue Daugherty, with the Community Leadership Award at a volunteer recognition luncheon on May 9 at Philmont Country Club.

John Eskate, director of RSVP Philadelphia, said Daugherty and MANNA are being singled out for special recognition for engaging in community partnerships that enhance and raise the quality of life in communities.

“Also,” he said, “they continuously address social issues in communal endeavors that helped to make the world a better place and which are consistent with the goals and objectives of RSVP Philadelphia.”

MANNA brings together dieticians, chefs, drivers and thousands of volunteers to cook and deliver nutritious, medically appropriate meals and provide nutrition counseling to neighbors who are battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, renal disease and HIV/AIDS. ••

Clothing donations sought

A slightly used clothing drive will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the schoolyard of St. Anselm Church. 12670 Dunks Ferry Road.

The event is being sponsored by The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. ••

St. Bart’s celebrating 100th

St. Bartholomew will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a reunion April 27, from 7 p.m. to midnight, in the parish hall, 5600 Harbison Ave. Admission is $40.

The evening will include catered food, beer, wine, DJ, 50/50 and raffle baskets. It’s BYOB, and people must be 21 or older to attend.

Holy Inn going on casino trip

Holy Innocents Church will be holding a trip to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem on Tuesday, April 23.

A bus will depart at 9 a.m. from L Street and Hunting Park Avenue. The bus will depart the Sands at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $35, due by April 15. Guests will receive $25 in slot cash.
