The event will take place on the grassy media at Holme and Winchester avenues.

Among those scheduled to speak are City Councilman Bobby Henon; Fraternal Order of Lodge 5 President John McNesby; Donna Giulian, president of the FOP Lodge 5 auxiliary; Police Commissioner Richard Ross; Courtney Simpson, Sgt. Simpson’s daughter; Holme Circle Civic Association President Mike Fagan; the Rev. Steve Wetzel, of the St. Michael the Archangel Ministry Program; and the Rev. Michael Reilly, pastor at St. Jerome.

Simpson, who worked in the 24th Police District, died in 2008 when his police car was hit at Aramingo and Allegheny avenues by a speeding suspect’s vehicle as the officer responded to an unrelated robbery.

The suspect, who had a long criminal history, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and was sentenced to 19 to 40 years in prison. ••
