Friday night concert series starting May 31

The Danube Swabian Association, 1277 Southampton Road in Somerton, will be holding its free outdoor summer concert series on three upcoming Friday nights.

Soundwave (big band music) will perform on May 31, followed by Connolly and Murphy (Irish music) on June 14 and the Cardinal Dougherty Alumni Band on June 28.

The public is invited.

Food and refreshments will be available for purchase starting at 6 p.m. The concerts start at 7 p.m. Call 215-722-4253. ••

Film on Judge vets on TV Sunday

The film Remember the 27 Crusaders, which tells the story of the 27 Father Judge graduates who died in the Vietnam War, will be shown on Sunday, May 26, at 4 p.m. on Fox 29. ••

Memorial Day flag raising at PPH

There will be an American flag-raising ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, at 8:30 a.m. at the Philadelphia Protestant Home, 6401 Martins Mill Road.

The ceremony will take place at the main entrance of Lawndale Manor.

Refreshments will be served. ••

Home Depot donates flowers for memorial

Take Back Your Neighborhood is thanking Home Depot for providing flower barrels and supplies to beautify the Burholme World War I monument in time for Memorial Day.

Home Depot’s community outreach provider, Justin McKinstry, arranged the delivery of supplies.

The civic group also thanks the leaders of Boy Scout Troop 160, who assisted in the project.

The Scouts will be marching from the Philadelphia Protestant Home to Jardel Recreation Center to Five Points on Memorial Day, arriving at about 9:45 a.m. for a ceremony. ••

Broadway in Bustleton

Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road, will host Married to Broadway on Sunday, June 2, at 3:30 p.m.

The show will feature stars of Les Miserables performing a musical revue and tribute to the Great White Way.

Tickets cost $25 for students under age 18, $40 for general reserved, $54 for premier reserved and $118 for front reserved seating, dinner and reserved parking.

Tuesday deadline for beef and beer tickets

The deadline for reservations is May 28 for the Men’s Club of Congregations of Shaare Shamayim’s beef and beer.

The event is set for June 6 at 6:30 p.m. at Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road.

The cost is $20.

The evening will include entertainment.

Celebrate Ramadan at NE Regional

The children’s department of Northeast Regional Library, 2228 Cottman Ave., will present a Ramadan program for children on Wednesday, May 29, at 4 p.m.

The program will feature stories, crafts and other activities, including henna application on hands. Parental permission required for henna design.

Sports radio at Dunphy Ford

Each Thursday, from noon to 2 p.m., ESPN radio hosts Eytan Shander and Harry Mayes broadcast their talk show on 97.3 FM live from Dunphy Ford, 7700 Frankford Ave.

The public is invited to stop in to listen to the show and meet the hosts. ••

June 3 benefit for nonprofits

3C of Connecting is sponsoring Connecting for a Cause on Monday, June 3, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Trifecta Sporting Club, 4666 E. Bristol Pike, in Feasterville.

The cost is $25 and includes a buffet dinner, raffle baskets and more than 20 businesses and vendors.

Portions of the proceeds will go to five nonprofits: The Christmas Gala, NO Longer Bound, Bristol Borough Teen Foundation, Never Give Up and Croydon Haunted Hollows.

Tacony Library loans jigsaw puzzles

Tacony Library, located at 6742 Torresdale Ave., has a collection of adult/teen jigsaw puzzles (500-1,000 pieces) available for loan.

People can check puzzles out on their library card for three weeks, just like a book, and renew them if they haven’t finished them yet.

The puzzles are of numerous themes and include a few special features, like an embedded mystery to solve or being double-sided for an extra challenge.
