Broadway is coming to Bustleton.
Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road, will host Married to Broadway, Starring the Sharpe Family Singers on Sunday, June 2, at 3:30 p.m.
The show will feature stars of Les Miserables performing a musical revue and tribute to the Great White Way.
The husband-and-wife team of Ron Sharpe and Barbra Russell-Sharpe are Broadway veterans who produce the show. They’ve produced two Broadway shows, A Catered Affair and A Tale of Two Cities. They produced Tale in 12 countries and will be bringing the show to China shortly. They are working to finalize a feature film of Tale that will be released in 2020.
The Sharpes met when they were playing the young romantic leads of Marius and Cosette in Les Miserables. After being married on stage thousands of times, they did it for real.
In the upcoming show, the Sharpe family will perform songs from shows such as Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Carousel, Les Miserables and Fiddler on the Roof and rock, pop and Disney on Broadway tunes.
The Sharpes, North Jersey residents who have previously performed under “Broadway Sings” at Shaare Shamayim and the former Ner Zedek, will be joined by daughter Samantha (age 23) and sons Logan (17) and 10-year-old twins Aidan and Connor, who dress as Buzz Lightyear and Woody of Toy Story to sing You’ve Got a Friend in Me.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” Ron Sharpe said of the family collaboration. “I’m having more fun than I ever have. We get to travel together and do shows.”
Sharpe said the show will include costumes, along with storytelling and humor to give it a flow. A few family friends are part of the 10-person show, too. There will be two 50-minute sets sandwiched around an intermission.
“Everybody gets to shine in the show,” Sharpe said. “Everybody in the show is an amazing singer.”
The Sharpes’ off-Broadway experiences include a dozen American Cancer Society charity shows, Christmas shows at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City and performances in Ireland and on the Florida condo circuit.
The Sharpe Family Singers are booked at Resorts from July 2-31, Sundays through Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
Russell-Sharpe Productions was at Old York Road Temple-Beth Am on May 5, and some of the guests told the Sharpes they plan to be at Shaare Shamayim on June 2. ••
